SKUTTA '26 was a fashion runway held in Fitzroy Crossing and organised by the Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation. The event featured ten designers representing the diverse creative voices of the Fitzroy Valley.

Among the designers was Brodie George, a Walmajarri and Gooniyandi woman who launched the swimwear label Jalayimiya in 2022. At the show her daughter, Ngoorloona, debuted a surf‑suit design, prompting Ms George to remark, "She's making her debut at a similar age to me, which is really, really beautiful."

Eva Nargoodah and her daughter Ivy Nargoodah run Rukaji Designs, a brand that colours its garments with bush dyes extracted from puffball mushrooms, tree bark and even rusted objects. Their work was also displayed on the SKUTTA catwalk, and Eva added, "I hope the event inspires young people to take up artistic and creative opportunities."

Community programs manager Deborah Carter said about half the designs were created by young people from the Fitzroy Valley, underscoring the event’s focus on nurturing local talent.

The name SKUTTA comes from the Fitzroy Kriol word "skudda," which the organisers describe as a symbol of cultural pride and identity, a mindset of "proudly being your deadly self."

Organisers said the show serves as an important reminder and inspiration for the next generation, and they are already planning SKUTTA '27 to continue the momentum.

By spotlighting both seasoned creators and emerging youth, SKUTTA '26 demonstrates how a community‑based fashion event can reinforce cultural identity, empower Indigenous designers, and encourage the next generation to pursue creative careers.
