Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson were killed during a 2024 surfing and camping trip in Baja California, Mexico. Their bodies, along with their American friend’s, were later recovered from a well near the Pacific coast.

The three men accused of the murders – Jesús Gerardo "El Kekas", Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús – have been on trial in Ensenada for aggravated homicide, aggravated robbery, violent robbery and grand theft auto.

Debra Robinson told Judge Raul Hernandez Arellano that she and her husband Martin must fly back to Australia on October 9, so she asked that the verdict be delivered before they leave.

Judge Raul Hernandez Arellano said he would consider the request and set the verdict for 10 a.m. on October 9, less than 24 hours after the closing arguments and just before the Robinsons’ flight.

The family’s appeal highlights how personal circumstances, such as the need to return home, can influence court scheduling. A quicker decision may give the parents some closure before they depart Mexico.

If the judge’s timetable is kept, the Robinsons will hear the outcome of the trial before boarding their flight, allowing them to process the verdict while still in the country where the case is being heard.
