The World Economic Forum’s 2026 Travel and Tourism Development Index shows Vietnam moving up seven places to 52nd out of 110 economies, its highest position since the Covid‑19 pandemic.
Visa reforms have made entry easier: the country now offers 90‑day e‑visas and 45‑day visa‑exemptions for citizens of 24 nations, including France, the U.K., the Netherlands and Russia.
Heavy investment in aviation and transport has also paid off. Airport terminals have been upgraded and Long Thanh International Airport is being built, with commercial operations slated to start in December.
Tourism products have broadened as well. Food, wellness, adventure and nature‑based experiences are now promoted, and destinations such as Nha Trang, Mu Cang Chai, Moc Chau and Phong Nha‑Ke Bang have gained international recognition.
In the WEF index Vietnam performed strongly in price competitiveness, air transport, port infrastructure, natural resources and safety and security, all of which boost its overall score.
Martin Koerner, commercial director of The Anam Group, said the rise resulted from a combination of visa reforms, infrastructure upgrades, diversified tourism products and a reputation for safety. Dr. Justin Matthew Pang, senior program manager of the Tourism and Hospitality Management program at RMIT Vietnam, echoed the same assessment.
