Brad Miller, the mayor of Richmound, Saskatchewan, is leaving his job on Oct. 15 after dealing with a dangerous cult.
In September 2023, Romana Didulo, who calls herself the “Queen of Canada,” and her followers moved into an empty school in the village.
The group refused to pay for water or electricity, pumped raw sewage into a children’s playground, and threatened public executions.
Miller asked the government for help and also handled property fraud, seniors‑centre disputes, and pandemic‑related finances.
On Sept. 3, 2025, the RCMP raided the school after a gun report, arrested cult members, and the Saskatchewan Health Authority said the building was unsafe, forcing eviction.
The cult is now gone. Richmound is starting the $10,000‑grant Grow Together greenhouse project to help with food insecurity.
Miller will step down on Oct. 15, halfway through a term that ends in Nov 2028, and will stay in the village to watch the new projects grow.
