Gruffalo Granny is the third and likely final book in Julia Donaldson’s Gruffalo series, arriving 26 years after the original The Gruffalo was first published.
The story follows the original Gruffalo and his child as they prepare a big feast for Gruffalo Granny, who is known for her enormous appetite. The clever mouse from the first book even ends up on the menu.
Pan Macmillan introduced the new character by projecting a large illustration of Gruffalo Granny onto the British Library in London in early September.
After just ten days on sale, the book became the United Kingdom’s biggest‑selling title of 2026 across all genres and ages, according to NielsenIQ BookScan.
It sold 227,169 copies in its first three days, making it the fastest‑selling picture book ever recorded in the UK, the publisher said.
Julia Donaldson says she will not write another Gruffalo book and her next title will be Winnifred Duck.
