Thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain are expected across much of upper Thailand from Monday through Wednesday, raising flash‑flood risk, especially in low‑lying areas, the Thailand Meteorological Department said.

Very heavy to heavy rains are also forecast for the central, eastern and southern regions, including Bangkok, over the weekend, according to the same weather outlook.

The floods have already taken a heavy human toll: 31 deaths have been reported in eight provinces, with four of those fatalities occurring in Bangkok, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported.

More than 3.5 million people remained affected by flooding nationwide as of Monday, facing displaced homes, disrupted travel and damaged livelihoods.

Bangkok authorities said they are draining water from the city’s main canals and deploying additional pumps in high‑risk districts to lower the chance of further flooding.

In response to the extensive damage, the Thai government approved emergency funds of more than 4.1 billion baht (about US$122 million) for flood recovery, aiming to support affected communities and rebuild infrastructure.

These measures highlight why the escalating flood warnings matter: they show the direct human cost, the broad reach across the country, and the urgent steps the government is taking to protect lives and restore normalcy.
