Singapore Looks at Tougher Rules for High‑Risk AI as Systems Gain Autonomy
Singapore siết chặt an toàn AI
Source: Channel NewsAsia
Singapore is studying whether fresh safety measures are needed for high‑risk AI uses because increasingly capable and autonomous AI systems create new risks that existing safeguards may not fully address.
Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo said the possible safeguards could involve more rigorous testing, independently verifiable evidence that safety steps work, tighter controls on deployment, and stronger regulatory oversight.
She explained that Singapore will keep encouraging AI innovation while applying a “risk‑based and multi‑layered approach”, meaning limits on AI deployment are set according to the level of risk each use presents.
The government deliberately limits what AI agents can do and assumes that malicious actors could use AI to cause harm more cheaply, quickly and at scale, Teo said.
So far, there has been no reported cyber attack against government agencies involving an unsupervised AI agent.
