Following Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, Phu Quoc becomes the fourth Vietnamese destination covered by the Michelin Guide’s inspectors. This marks a new milestone for the island’s culinary reputation.
Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, said Phu Quoc stands out for the way its fishing‑village food culture intersects with an increasingly diverse restaurant scene shaped in part by international culinary talent.
The guide’s inspectors evaluate each venue on five criteria: the chef’s personality as expressed in the cuisine, harmony of flavors, mastery of cooking techniques, quality of products, and consistency over time and across the menu.
One star indicates a very good restaurant, two stars denote excellent cooking worth a detour, and three stars represent exceptional cuisine worthy of a special journey.
Vietnam now boasts 11 one‑Michelin‑starred restaurants – six in Ho Chi Minh City, four in Hanoi and one in Da Nang – showing a growing national presence that Phu Quoc now adds to with its distinctive blend of tradition and global influence.
