Little Women’s New Twist: Jo March’s Female Rage Meets Modern Feminism
Little Women phiên bản mới: Nổi giận của Jo March lên sân khấu Queensland

Brisbane‑based actor and playwright Kathryn Marquet is co‑adapting Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women for Queensland Theatre Company’s 2027 season. The production will star local actor Courtney Cavallaro in the role of Jo March.
Marquet says the new script puts Jo’s “female rage” at the heart of the story, linking the 19th‑century character’s frustration with today’s feminist discussions about women’s choices and the acceptability of anger.
QTC artistic director Daniel Evans commissioned the adaptation to give Queensland artists a platform and to make the classic feel relevant to modern audiences. He explained that showcasing local talent helps connect historic works with current social issues.
The article also notes a sharp decline in drama education across Queensland – high‑school enrolments fell 39% between 2020 and 2025 and the state’s only technical production degree was cut. Programs such as QTC’s The Scene Project are therefore vital for nurturing the next generation of theatre‑makers.
