Gladys Lam, a professional racer of production‑based cars, self‑funded a seat in a Proton Saga at the 2019 Malaysia Speed Festival, won the women’s category and now races full‑time. She says, “The clock doesn’t care whether you’re male or female.”
Beyond her own racing, Lam co‑founded The Racer Tour and the indoor drifting experience Dorifto! to lower entry barriers to motorsport, giving beginners a chance to try real race cars with coaching. Her early sponsors included Liqui Moly, and Porsche later approached her for test‑drives.
Kareen Kaur made history as Singapore’s first female Formula 4 driver, debuting in 2025. In 2026 she was selected for the F1 Academy Rookie Test, becoming the first Singaporean chosen for the program. Kaur says she wants girls to picture themselves on the grid.
Kaur also benefits from commercial support; she is a “friend of Porsche” and counts brands such as Charles & Keith and Admin By Request among her sponsors. She balances school, gym training and multi‑day testing while promoting the sport to other young women.
Their growing visibility matters because motorsport has traditionally been male‑dominated. When Lam and Kaur succeed, they provide concrete role models that prove performance is gender‑neutral, encouraging more women to consider racing as a viable path.
Together, Lam and Kaur show that when women are seen winning and leading projects, the perception of who belongs on the track changes, paving the way for broader gender equality in motorsport.
