Narromine is a town of about 3,500 people in western NSW. For its yearly October party the town changes its name to “Dollymine” to honour the country‑music star.
Dolly Parton died in August at the age of 80. The festival still celebrates her music and style even after her passing.
This year’s Dollymine Festival attracted a record number of visitors. Festival organiser Skye Rush said locals and visitors came out in force, using the shops and the accommodation and filling the town with people.
Skye Rush also said the event is the largest it has ever been. The festival first started in 2022, was cancelled in 2024, and was saved by a $150,000 state government grant together with support from the local council.
The strong community response shows how a small town can turn grief into a shared celebration, keeping Dolly’s legacy alive while bringing people together.
