Residents along the Budhi Gandaki river in north‑central Nepal evacuated on Sunday as flash flooding destroyed homes and other structures. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) evacuated villagers, warned others to move to safer areas, and stayed on alert until late Sunday.
The agency is trying to determine the cause of the flash flood; the Budhi Gandaki merges into the Trishuli river, a key waterway near the capital Kathmandu.
The government estimates the rebuilding effort will cost $4.77 billion, with nearly 33,000 people affected and about 7,500 homes damaged or destroyed.
The quick coordination shows why early warnings, organized evacuations, and rapid damage assessment are essential for large‑scale recovery, especially in mountainous regions.
