Police say a 38‑year‑old woman from China is accused of stealing a Swarovski bracelet worth about S$256 from a shop in Terminal 3 of Changi Airport.
The theft was first noticed at about 1.15 am on 26 September when a store assistant saw the bracelet missing from the display.
Closed‑circuit‑television (CCTV) footage showed a woman taking the bracelet and leaving the shop. Police used the images and said facial‑recognition technology in the cameras helps them identify suspects.
The woman was arrested before she could leave Singapore, and the bracelet was found in her possession.
She will be charged with theft in dwelling. If she is convicted, she could face up to seven years in jail, a fine, or both.
Police added that they take shop theft seriously and that CCTV cameras, including those with facial‑recognition, have helped retailers and police in investigations.
