Source: CBC
Eliud Kipchoge, the two‑time Olympic champion from Kenya, finished the Melbourne Marathon in 2 hours 9 minutes 10 seconds. His time set a new race record, beating the previous best by two seconds.
The earlier record was 2:09:12, set by Timothy Kiplagat Ronoh in 2022. Kipchoge’s win also ended a three‑year marathon victory drought; his last marathon win was in Berlin in September 2023.
He slowed to wave to spectators inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the final half‑lap.
