Mitte died on Monday at age 34. Justice of the Peace Cyndi Hinojosa in Brownsville, Texas, declared him dead at about 1:30 p.m., though the cause of death has not yet been released.
Mitte was best known for playing Walter White Jr., the teenage son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White, in the AMC series Breaking Bad. The drama aired from 2008 to 2013 and was later voted the best TV show of the 21st century in a New York Times poll.
Beyond acting, Mitte served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and led his own Mitte Foundation as president. His representatives said he used his public platform to challenge stereotypes and push for greater disability representation in media.
His visibility on a hit series showed audiences that actors with disabilities can portray complex characters, helping to break down misconceptions and encouraging more inclusive casting across the industry.
