Ho Chi Minh City is reaching out to Hamburg to build a partnership that could speed up Vietnam’s economic growth. Both cities see a chance to combine their strengths for mutual benefit.

The city wants to cooperate with Hamburg in transport, logistics, high technology and renewable energy, hoping these fields will draw more German investment. Such sectors are key to modernising Vietnam’s infrastructure and creating new jobs.

The plan was first discussed at a reception on Monday, which Nguyen Van Duoc, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, hosted for Hamburg First Mayor Peter Tschentscher and his delegation. The meeting marked the start of a formal dialogue between the two municipalities.

Peter Tschentscher said Hamburg has strong experience in maritime activities, transport and digital technologies for seaports and logistics. He added that Hamburg also has expertise in offshore wind power and is ready to share these know‑how with Ho Chi Minh City.

Duoc stressed that the two cities should complement each other and move beyond simple contacts toward concrete programmes and projects that bring practical benefits. He noted that after merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria‑Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City now has added strengths in industry, seaports, logistics, science and technology, and services, which can support joint initiatives.

If the partnership turns into real projects, German expertise and capital could help Vietnam accelerate its economic development. The Ho Chi Minh City‑Hamburg link therefore matters as a potential source of investment, technology and jobs for the country.
