Hanoi has just entered the top five of the world’s fastest cities for mobile internet. The jump is notable for anyone who uses mobile data every day.

According to Ookla’s August 2026 Speedtest Global Index, Hanoi recorded a median mobile download speed of 493.37 Mbps. This performance moved the capital up five places, making it the fifth‑fastest city worldwide.

Vietnam’s rapid improvement in mobile internet performance, especially in Hanoi, is largely driven by the commercialization of 5G services. The expansion of network coverage has also played a key role.

The Ministry of Science and Technology says 4G now reaches 99.8% of Vietnam’s population, while 5G coverage has reached approximately 91.9%. Such extensive reach lets most users enjoy fast mobile data.

The data shows that Hanoi’s surge to the fifth‑fastest spot is mainly due to 5G rollout and broad network coverage. This example highlights how quickly a city’s mobile internet can improve when new technology spreads widely.
