Quang Ninh province in northern Vietnam is turning its old craft villages into places for tourists. This helps keep the culture alive and can give people new jobs.
Quang Ninh has three officially recognized traditional craft villages. They focus on wooden boatbuilding, fishing‑net weaving and other handicrafts. Le Van Chan, a 17th‑generation wooden‑boat craftsman, says visitors can learn about timber selection, boat construction and heritage.
The province also plans to link local foods such as Binh Lieu glass noodles, Dam Ha radishes and Van Don fish sauce with tourism. Tran Van Hoang, a San Chi ethnic cooperative director, says this could create jobs, raise household incomes and help traditional skills survive.
Under its 2026‑2030 development plan, Quang Ninh aims to recognize 13 additional craft villages and four traditional craft villages. By 2030, the province wants the average income of rural craft workers to be 2.5‑3 times higher than in 2020.
Linking traditional crafts with tourism is meant to protect culture while giving people better earnings. The province hopes the new plan will bring more visitors and higher incomes for local families.
