Oriental Land Co. announced that Japan’s first Disney cruise ship will be called Disney Imagination. This new ship could give Japanese families a fresh and affordable way to vacation at sea.

The ship is planned to start service in the spring of 2029, and reservations will open about six months before the launch. It will be about 340 meters long, weigh roughly 140,000 tons, have 1,250 guest rooms and hold around 4,000 passengers. The construction and related costs are expected to be about 330 billion yen.

The ship will offer two‑ to four‑night trips that start and end in Tokyo. Standard rooms will cost about 100,000 yen to under 400,000 yen per person.

Ryotaro Shiiba, president of Oriental Land Cruise Co., said the ship will sail under the Japanese flag to support the domestic cruise market. Oriental Land aims to grow its luxury cruise business into a key revenue pillar alongside its theme parks.
