Vietnam‑US High‑Tech Push: What It Means for Companies and Workers

Đẩy mạnh công nghệ cao Việt - Mỹ: Tác động đến doanh nghiệp và người lao động

The recent Vietnam‑US Business Summit highlighted a new push toward high‑tech investment and stricter supply‑chain rules. Understanding these changes is essential for Vietnamese companies and job seekers who want to stay competitive.

Vietnam’s economy expanded by 9.01 % in the first nine months of 2026, attracted more than $50 billion in registered foreign direct investment, and recorded $888 billion in trade turnover. These figures show a strong base for further development.

According to Resolution No. 10‑NQ/TW, the government will move away from attracting single projects and will instead build investment platforms centred on industrial clusters and innovation ecosystems. This shift aims to create a more coordinated environment for high‑tech growth.

Future Vietnam‑US cooperation will prioritize semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy, sustainable supply chains, innovation and high‑quality human‑resources training. VCCI Vice Chairman Hoang Quang Phong urged domestic businesses to move beyond exporting raw materials, build their own brands and increase participation in higher‑value‑added production stages, because transparency in the origin of raw materials is critical and firms limited to basic processing will face increasingly sophisticated technical barriers.

Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Agency of Foreign Trade, said US trade policy rests on five pillars: reciprocity, trade balance, economic security, domestic manufacturing promotion and supply‑chain security. These pillars guide how Vietnam prepares its markets for US partners.

For Vietnamese firms, the message is clear: upgrade technology, ensure traceable supply chains, and aim for higher‑value products. Job seekers should focus on skills in semiconductors, AI, clean energy and supply‑chain management to meet the emerging demand.
