Smoke from fires in Indonesia’s southern Sumatra and Kalimantan has moved to Singapore. The National Environment Agency issued unhealthy air‑quality alerts. This haze is making outdoor tourism harder, so the story matters for anyone working in tours.
Singapore’s air quality index reached 193, putting the city among the world’s two most polluted major cities. The first unhealthy reading (PSI 101) was recorded on Sept 4, according to the National Environment Agency.
Yeo Yen Ping, founder of On A Roll Tour, said kick‑scooter bookings fell 10‑20% since September because of the haze. Quek Wee Teck, director of Wanderlust Adventures, said yacht rentals fell 30% in the same period.
More than half of Wanderlust Adventures’ customers come from China, India, Europe, Australia and the United States. Quek added that Chinese bookings dropped sharply during the Oct 1 National Day holidays. Operators are adding indoor stops such as museums and galleries, and they offer walking or indoor tours. Singapore River Cruise said its business has not changed much.
