The launch of a cross‑border QR payment network is a major step for Vietnamese consumers and tourists. It promises smoother purchases abroad and stronger protection against fraud, which is why it matters to anyone who travels or shops online.
Vietnamese travelers can pay with QR codes in over 60 countries and territories. International visitors can also use digital payment methods in Vietnam, as announced at Vietnam Digital Payment Day 2026.
Banks and payment intermediaries are working to improve system connectivity and integrate payment services, according to the State Bank of Vietnam. Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dung urged them to develop integrated payment models covering the whole customer journey, and Pham Anh Tuan highlighted that open APIs and bilateral QR links can expand options, reduce duplicated investment and cut costs.
Nguyen Ba Diep, senior vice chairman of MoMo, said the e‑wallet’s ecosystem links users to about 100 million payment acceptance points in 60 countries and territories, and that MoMo has partnered with 56 airlines. He added that the system flags roughly 29,000 transactions each day, helping MoMo keep a safe payment rate of 99.95 percent, and that MoMo works with the central bank and the Ministry of Public Security to detect suspicious activity.
To protect users, the State Bank of Vietnam issued Circular No. 50/2024/TT‑NHNN, which sets technical and security standards for online authentication, and it has linked with 21 fraud‑prevention organisations. Together with the three priorities of connecting infrastructure, integrating services and building digital trust, these measures aim to make cross‑border QR payments both easier and safer for travelers and online shoppers.
