A barn owl was found unable to fly in an alley of Ho Chi Minh City. The story shows how everyday actions can help or hurt wild birds, so it is worth reading.
The owl’s wing feathers had been clipped, so it could not fly and stayed in the alley for about three days, the couple said. Tran Uyen Nhu reported that the bird was frightened, weak, and could only walk. She added that the owl had clipped feathers on both wings, a bone injury on one wing, low body temperature and diarrhea. The couple took the bird to a veterinary clinic for treatment.
Some people suspect the owl was harmed on purpose because of a superstition that owls bring bad luck. A forest ranger who saw the pictures said the bird is probably a grey‑backed barn owl, a species listed in Vietnam’s Group IIB as endangered and precious.
The rescue reminds us that injured wildlife should be taken to professionals, not left alone or hurt further. Helping the owl can give it a chance to recover and return to the wild.
