The recent case of a fraudulent online pork sale highlights the hidden risks of buying regional specialties without verification, and it shows why protecting authentic brands matters to every consumer. Readers will see how a single scam can ripple through an entire food community.
Nguyen Quang Vinh, a resident of My Hao Ward in Hung Yen Province, ordered a four‑box combo advertised on Facebook as That Khe braised pork belly. After heating one box for his family, he discovered the contents were merely pork knuckle bones and a piece of pig skin, not the promised melt‑in‑the‑mouth delicacy.
The boxes lacked any production or expiry dates, barcode, ingredient list, or food‑safety certification, the report noted. When Vinh asked for a refund, the seller said returns were impossible after opening and later blocked his phone.
Hundreds of other shoppers reported receiving the same misleading product, and the seller’s Facebook pages were subsequently locked after the complaints spread on social media. These collective complaints forced the platform to intervene, demonstrating the power of consumer voices.
Investigators traced the fraudulent items to Z FOOD Deli in Hanoi; reporters filmed the interior of the facility, which was found closed shortly after the footage was submitted to authorities. The closure confirmed that the alleged producer was no longer operating at the recorded address.
Local producers in That Khe said the incident seriously harmed their reputation and prompted police investigations, according to statements from braised pork belly producer Lanh Van Huy and That Khe administration chairman Chu Tuan Doanh. The case underscores how scams not only risk personal safety but also damage the credibility of genuine regional foods.
