Around 170,000 international students from 180 countries are studying in Malaysia, says Minister Zambry Abd Kadir. The government wants this number to grow to 250,000 by 2030, creating more study places for students like you.
International students bring at least RM16 billion (US$3.92 billion) to Malaysia each year, according to the minister. This money helps keep tuition fees affordable and supports local services that benefit students.
Malaysia has 32 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2027, the most in Southeast Asia. Universiti Malaya is ranked 56th worldwide with a score of 81.2, and five Malaysian universities are in the global top 200, showing high academic quality.
With more students expected, Malaysia will likely expand scholarships and English‑language programs. Vietnamese learners can consider Malaysia as a nearby, high‑quality and affordable option for higher education.
