Tourists in Vietnam often look for dramatic places to take photos. This article shows why those risky spots can bring fines, accidents, or even death, so readers can learn how to stay safe.
On Saturday, six women sat in the middle of a dangerous bend on Hai Van Pass to pose for a picture. Authorities said they were fined a total of VND1.5 million. The pass has steep terrain, sharp bends and limited visibility, so standing on the road is a high risk for traffic accidents.
At Ma Pi Leng Pass, tourists still climb the “death rock” even though visits were suspended on July 1, 2026 and a two‑meter iron fence was built. Local authorities noted accidents in 2021 and 2023. In Quang Ninh, visitors climbed stacked rocks on Da Chong Mountain without railings, using only natural footholds and ropes, which could cause serious injury.
In Ho Chi Minh City, some tourists climbed a cliff near Nghinh Phong Cape despite safety railings that had been installed. Local authorities said a young visitor previously fell from about 30 meters high and was injured. Ignoring the railings puts both the climbers and others in danger.
