Vietnam’s coffee export revenue hit a record US$8.5 billion in the 2025‑26 crop year, with about 1.8 million metric tons shipped, VICOFA chairman Nguyen Nam Hai said at a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday. Yet most of the shipment was green coffee beans, limiting earnings potential.
According to VICOFA, green coffee beans accounted for roughly 1.65 million metric tons, worth nearly US$7 billion. By contrast, deeply processed coffee products reached about 142,600 metric tons and generated US$1.5 billion, with volume up 15 % and value up 14 % year on year.
Le Hoang Tai, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, noted that processed coffee made up only around eight percent of export volume in the first half of 2026. Nevertheless, it contributed 17‑17.5 percent of total export revenue, and foreign‑invested enterprises accounted for more than 81 percent of the revenue from these products.
VICOFA identified the European Union Deforestation Regulation as a key market requirement. Exporters that can prove legal origin and deforestation‑free status have received premiums of about US$50 per metric ton.
The data show that moving more coffee into deep processing and meeting the EUDR can raise Vietnam’s export earnings per ton. Focusing on processing technology, brand development, and compliance offers a clear path to higher revenue.
