A household well in Vinh Long Province, southern Vietnam, began gushing water continuously, sending a column about 15 meters high. The sudden flow is unusual and could affect local safety and the environment.
The well belongs to 73‑year‑old Duong Thi Huong and her family has used it for more than 10 years. Officials do not know the exact cause, but they think high groundwater pressure or local geological and hydrological conditions may be involved.
Local authorities have asked specialists to inspect the well, check the danger level, and study possible impacts. The specialists will work with the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment.
If the discharge continues, it could cause groundwater loss, weaken soil stability, damage nearby structures, and endanger residents. Quick assessment and action are needed to protect the community and the environment.
