Why UN warming forecasts have risen despite renewable growth

Dự báo nóng lên toàn cầu của LHQ tăng bất chấp sự phát triển năng lượng tái tạo

A new United Nations report released on Wednesday shows that global warming is expected to exceed earlier estimates. Even the most optimistic scenario predicts average temperatures 1.7‑1.8 °C above pre‑industrial levels by mid‑century, highlighting why the findings matter.

The report, prepared by the UN Environment Programme, says greenhouse‑gas emissions must fall 18 % from 2025 levels by 2030, 45 % by 2035 and 69 % by 2040. By contrast, current national plans would only cut emissions 5‑8 % by 2030 and 11‑15 % by 2035.

Under today’s policies the UN projects global warming of 2.8 °C by 2100, or 2.6 °C if all existing climate pledges are fully implemented. These figures are higher than last year’s because of the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and revised assessments of historical emissions.

The report also notes that climate plans submitted since last year have made virtually no difference to future warming projections. Returning to the 1.5 °C target would therefore rely on large‑scale carbon removal, whose feasibility remains uncertain.

In short, expanding renewables has not lowered the UN’s warming outlook. Stronger cuts and new technologies are needed to keep temperature rise within safe limits.
