Vietnam’s economy is gaining speed thanks to a wave of foreign investment and higher productivity. Understanding this trend helps you see how it may affect your future job prospects, earnings and everyday spending.
According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), disbursed FDI reached $13 billion in the first half of the year, up 11.2% and the highest level in five years, with manufacturing accounting for more than 82% of the capital. Electronics clusters involving Samsung, LG and Intel have upgraded production capabilities, skills and supply networks, further strengthening the sector.
The AMRO report notes that productivity gains have spread to domestic businesses through linkages with multinational corporations. This gives Vietnamese firms access to higher technical standards and quality requirements.
The ADB expects wage increases and tax cuts to continue supporting household spending, which should boost purchasing power. It also reports that final consumption rose 8.2% and gross capital formation increased 15.2%, indicating stronger domestic demand. Together, these factors can translate into more hiring and higher salaries.
In short, the combination of record‑high FDI, upgraded manufacturing skills and rising wages points to a tighter labour market and better pay for many Vietnamese workers. As purchasing power grows, everyday items become more affordable for households across the country.
