The Hon Khoai bridge will stretch 18.5 km, making it the longest sea‑crossing bridge in Vietnam. Its construction shows how the country is tackling difficult offshore conditions to improve regional connectivity.
To cope with the weak seabed, engineers are driving bored piles more than 100 metres below the sea floor. Nearly 500 bridge piers, built on these deep piles, will support a deck 16.5 m wide designed for speeds up to 80 kph.
The project has mobilised over 1,000 pieces of equipment and more than 2,000 workers. These resources are working around the clock to install the piles, piers and super‑T girders required for the massive structure.
Total investment exceeds VND25.7 trillion (about US$993 million). Four high‑end machines, each costing roughly VND1 trillion (US$38.6 million), have been purchased to handle the offshore construction safely and on schedule.
When finished, the bridge is expected to give a strong boost to Ca Mau’s economy and to speed up the flow of goods to international markets. It will stand as a historic national project and a showcase of Vietnam’s engineering capability.
