Vietnam’s banking system processes about 100 million payments each day, worth VND 1.2 quadrillion (around $46 billion). This massive flow makes strong cybersecurity essential for protecting money and data.
Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dung warned that as digital banking expands, the pressure on cybersecurity, fraud detection and trust is growing. He said banks must keep up with these challenges to protect customers.
He also emphasized that artificial intelligence must bring real benefits, not just showcase technology. According to Dung, AI is becoming a core driver of operational strategy and real‑time fraud defence.
Dung added that cybersecurity risks are no longer only an IT issue. They directly impact business operations, reputation, customer confidence and the overall stability of the banking system.
TPBank illustrates the scale of digital reliance. The bank serves 18 million customers, and 99.5 % of its transactions are carried out through digital channels.
Because billions of dollars move through Vietnam’s banks each day, any cyber incident could affect the whole economy. Strong, system‑wide security measures are therefore essential for financial stability and public trust.
