Hoi An Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Da Nang, has become much quieter this month. The town saw an unusual drop in visitors and ticket sales over the past month, so the change is important to understand.
Pham Thi Ngoc, who works in a shop on Tran Phu Street, says the low‑tourism season usually begins in September. She added that this year the decline is far sharper than in previous years.
Le Quoc Viet, vice‑chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, says the downturn is partly caused by economic difficulties. He also says media reports about flooding and extreme weather have made travelers nervous.
Tran Thi Tuyet Dinh, owner of a local lodging facility, reports that cancellations for October‑November are about 50 % higher than last year because of fear of flooding. Between 6 September and 10 October the town recorded 121,400 paid sightseeing visits, 110,690 of them from abroad, and ticket sales gave more than VND 14.1 billion.
The quiet streets are the result of a sharp seasonal drop, money problems, and worries about floods, as shown by the recent visitor numbers and cancellations. Visitors may return when conditions improve.
