Lessons from Khanh: Building a Semiconductor Career in Vietnam
Bài học từ Khanh: Xây dựng sự nghiệp bán dẫn tại Việt Nam

Khanh’s story shows how a local engineer can reach the top of Intel’s biggest chip‑assembly plant. Young Vietnamese engineers can learn which habits and choices helped him move from a newcomer to a senior leader.
Khanh joined Intel Products Vietnam in late 2009 as a process engineer. He later worked as engineering manager, product development manager and project manager, and in 2020‑2021 he became the plant’s first Vietnamese General Factory Director.
When Khanh started, most senior roles were held by foreign managers. Intel has since transferred those positions to local staff, and today more than 90 % of senior‑management posts at the plant are occupied by Vietnamese personnel.
Khanh tells engineers to keep learning and to take on hard technical problems. He also advises finding strong mentors and building real capabilities instead of chasing titles.
Vietnamese engineers are praised for their vibrant energy, quick adoption of AI and data‑science tools, and for filing over 65 internal patents in the last five years. The plant now employs about 3,000 direct staff (up to 5,000 with partners) and has shipped more than four billion units, proving its global competitiveness.
The key takeaway is that a successful semiconductor career in Vietnam combines continuous self‑development, mentorship, and a focus on delivering real value. Following Khanh’s example can help young engineers rise quickly in this fast‑growing industry.
