Ho Chi Minh City is planning to change all its state‑owned cars and motorbikes to clean energy. The plan shows how the city wants to fight air pollution and climate change.
Deputy Director Bui Hoa An said that every car and motorbike owned by state agencies, except specialised vehicles, must switch to clean energy before 1 January 2030. He also warned that vehicle emissions are a big problem for air pollution and greenhouse‑gas emissions in large cities.
He explained that clean‑energy vehicles can cut emissions, fine dust and noise, and can also save energy and maintenance costs. The city also wants to reach net‑zero emissions before 2045, and the change will be supported by charging stations, parking places, financial incentives and assistance programmes from manufacturers.
At the launch event, Honda Vietnam gave the first electric motorbikes to officials who signed up for the incentive programme. This shows the city’s practical steps toward cleaner transport.
