VinFast will test 200 Level 4 driverless taxis in the Can Gio district of Ho Chi Minh City by late 2027. The trial will show how a taxi can sense, think and move without a human behind the wheel.
The taxis rely on a suite of sensors – cameras, radar and LiDAR – to collect detailed information about nearby vehicles, pedestrians and road features. These devices constantly scan the environment and feed raw data to the onboard computer.
The collected data passes through five processing stages. First, the system observes the scene, then it recognises objects, predicts their future movements, makes a driving decision and finally executes the command by controlling steering, acceleration and braking. This loop runs continuously while the vehicle is in motion.
VinFast’s Level 4 system runs on NVIDIA’s DRIVE Hyperion 10 computing platform and uses Autobrains’ Agentic AI software. The hardware handles the heavy data processing, while the AI agents decide how to respond to each driving task.
Level 4 taxis can operate without human intervention inside clearly defined operating zones, and they must bring the vehicle to a safe state if a situation exceeds their capabilities. The upcoming test will demonstrate how these technologies work together to enable safe, driver‑free rides.
