Phu Quoc is seeing a big increase in foreign tourists. This article explains why the growth matters for Vietnam’s economy.

As of September, Phu Quoc welcomed 1.92 million international tourists. That is 60 % more than last year and reaches 95 % of the target set by An Giang Province’s Department of Tourism.

The island earned VND45.9 trillion (US$1.76 billion) in tourism revenue in the first nine months. This is a 47.7 % rise year‑on‑year and already exceeds the yearly target by 1 %.

More than 370 Russian tourists arrived on the island’s first direct flight from Russia. Tour operator Anex Vietnam expects about 15,000 Russian visitors each month after the route opened. Starting Nov 13, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will fly its first international route from Phu Quoc to Moscow. Phu Quoc aims to receive 2.4 million foreign tourists in 2026.

The rapid rise in visitors and new direct flights are creating large revenue growth. This shows how tourism can help boost Vietnam’s economy.
