Practical Lessons from Minh’s 80‑Day, 25,000‑km Road Trip

Pham Quang Minh drove about 25,000 km from Ho Chi Minh City to Paris in just 80 days, crossing more than 20 countries. His adventure shows how careful planning can turn a massive road trip into a series of manageable steps.

Before leaving Vietnam, Minh made sure he was medically fit and spent weeks carefully researching the itinerary. He studied the sequence of countries, border procedures and major checkpoints along the 25,000‑km line. This preparation helped him avoid major surprises during the drive.

In mid‑July the convoy entered the Tian Shan mountains, where temperatures surged to 45 °C, making the air feel like a furnace and causing dizziness. A few days later, at the Tu’Er Gate crossing into Kyrgyzstan, customs inspections lasted more than half a day and the temperature dropped to about 4 °C. The sudden shift forced the team to continue driving through the night, testing their stamina and flexibility.

Because the distances between rest stops are very long, Minh always kept drinking water, food and essential repair equipment inside the car. This self‑sufficiency prevented delays when a tyre or a minor breakdown occurred far from the nearest town.

The journey also offered memorable cultural moments, such as meeting a Vietnamese pho‑restaurant owner in Tashkent who prepared a special meal after learning about their epic drive. In Copenhagen, Minh spotted taxis bearing a Vietnamese brand, a surprising reminder of his homeland abroad. Moreover, he visited Bulgaria, Greece, Denmark and Romania for the first time, enriching his perspective on European diversity.

Minh’s expedition demonstrates that thorough health checks, detailed route research, proper supplies and an open attitude toward local people turn a daunting overland trip into a series of achievable tasks. These practical steps can be applied to any long‑term goal, whether on the road or in everyday life.
