Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens has welcomed three baby capybaras. The babies are a happy sight after the zoo recently announced the death of its last lion, Mimi, who lived there for 16 years.
The three pups are named Anh, Yeu and Em. Their names translate to “I love you.”
Their mother, Cat, gave birth to them on October 19. Cat is one of four capybaras that arrived in January 2025 with the names Phu, Quy, Cat and Tuong. These four names stand for the Vietnamese blessing “Wealth, Prosperity, Luck, and Peace,” and the zoo highlighted the naming as a traditional four‑character blessing.
Capybaras are a viral internet sensation in Vietnam because they are very calm and friendly, so the newborns quickly became a popular attraction. The zoo sees the babies as a new source of joy after saying goodbye to Mimi.
