Ho Chi Minh City is changing its famous traditional markets. The changes aim to bring more tourists and keep the markets clean, so they are worth watching.
Authorities plan to reorganize stall arrangements and product categories at Ben Thanh Market to improve business and tourism appeal, according to Ngo Van Ha, director of the Ben Thanh Ward Public Service Supply Center. Fresh food stalls in Sections 3 and 4 will be moved into one area to raise hygiene, and the freed space will be used for confectionery, coffee and souvenirs. The market will stay open until 9:00 pm and has added two free public restrooms.
A nighttime food street will be set up near Ben Thanh Market. Ha said officials are reviewing traffic routes on Phan Chu Trinh and Phan Boi Chau Streets and will coordinate the plan with the metro line to bring more visitors.
Tan Dinh Ward will also redesign product sections, upgrade drainage and road surfaces, and add murals and better lighting to make a lively atmosphere, according to Tan Dinh Ward officials. The ward says these market‑revamp projects are part of its medium‑term investment program for 2026‑30.
These steps show how Ho Chi Minh City is modernising its traditional markets. The aim is to attract tourists, improve hygiene and create a better shopping experience.
