Vietnam faces a huge financing gap. The Vietnam Capital Market Forum 2026 says the country must mobilize around VND38.5 quadrillion (US$1.49 trillion) in investment capital over the next five years, and the stock market could be a key source.

Market data reported that by mid‑October Vietnam’s stock market capitalization had reached about VND10.7 quadrillion ($414 billion), roughly 82‑83 % of GDP. In 2026 FTSE Russell upgraded Vietnam to secondary emerging‑market status, opening broader access to international investment flows.

Tran Hoang Son, director of market strategy at VPBank Securities, explained that attracting long‑term capital means expanding the supply of quality‑listed assets, ensuring strong corporate governance, and providing clear transparency. He also stressed that sufficient liquidity is needed so investors can move money easily.

Nguyen Duy Linh, general director of Saigon‑Hanoi Securities, added that retaining long‑term flows depends on corporate quality, market stability and investor confidence. Both experts agree that these factors are essential for the stock market to become a real engine of growth.

The Vietnam Capital Market Forum 2026 aims to identify bottlenecks and propose solutions to improve capital mobilization, corporate quality, and investor confidence. By addressing these issues, Vietnam hopes to turn its upgraded market position into sustained economic development.
