Resale prices for Apple’s new iPhone Duo are climbing dramatically in Hong Kong, a trend that could affect anyone planning to buy the phone. Understanding the forces behind the surge helps shoppers anticipate the real cost of the device.

At Sin Tat Plaza, a popular electronics market, the 2‑terabyte iPhone Duo was sold for about HK$4,250, which is roughly HK$5,000 higher than its official retail price, the Standard reported. This premium shows how quickly the secondary market can outpace the original price.

Hong Kong is the world’s second‑cheapest market for the iPhone Duo’s official price, according to price‑tracking site Nukeni. Since the phone launched on 23 October, strong demand and a limited supply of the larger‑storage models have driven a booming resale market.

Store owner Steve said the price jump is linked to delayed deliveries from Apple and the fact that most of the stock was allocated to telecom operators. Because few unopened phones remain for independent sellers, the scarcity pushes resale prices upward.

Overseas buyers prefer factory‑sealed phones, paying about HK$2,000 more than opened units, Steve added. Similar premiums appear in Singapore (S$8,888 for a 256 GB model) and on eBay/X (up to $10,000), showing the shortage is not limited to Hong Kong.
