On 23 October, the container ship YM Wayfinder made its first call at Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT). The visit is notable because the vessel uses new dual‑fuel technology that can help Vietnam’s green logistics.
YM Wayfinder is a new‑generation ship about 365 metres long, with a deadweight of 159,374 tonnes and a capacity of roughly 15,500 TEU. Its dual‑fuel engine can run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and low‑sulfur fuel oil, and it includes monitoring and energy‑saving systems to cut emissions.
The vessel operates on the EC2 service of the Premier Alliance network, which links Vietnam directly with North America. This route provides a regular connection between TCIT and ports such as Savannah and Charleston.
YM Wayfinder is one of five LNG dual‑fuel ships that Yang Ming began taking delivery of in 2026. Yang Ming has also ordered seven more vessels of about 16,000 TEU each for delivery in 2028‑2029, designed to be ready for ammonia fuel.
Saigon Newport said TCIT will keep accelerating its adoption of technology and modern, eco‑friendly port operations. The company added that these steps will contribute to a green logistics chain and support Vietnam’s goal of net‑zero emissions by 2050.
