Ho Chi Minh City is actively building a global tourism brand, and the plan could reshape Vietnam’s economy. Understanding this strategy shows how tourism can generate growth and new jobs for many people.

The city is implementing Politburo Resolution No. 26‑NQ/TW, which designates tourism as a key economic sector in the new era. This policy aims to harness the city’s potential, improve competitiveness and raise the value of its tourism offerings.

At the 2026 World Travel Awards, Ho Chi Minh City won three titles: Asia’s Leading Business Travel Destination, Asia’s Leading Festival & Event Destination, and Asia’s Leading City Tourist board. In the same year, Saigontourist Group earned the World’s Best Culinary Festival, Asia’s Best Culinary Festival and the Inspirational Brand Award.

The city’s 2026 targets are 11 million international arrivals, 50 million domestic visitors and tourism revenue of 330 trillion VND. By 2030, it aims for 20 million international visitors, 67 million domestic tourists and 700 trillion VND in revenue.

Resolution No. 62/2025/NQ‑HDND provides a framework for MICE tourism support through 2030. The municipal Department of Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding with Airports Corporation of Vietnam to develop air routes from 2026 to 2030.

These combined efforts—government resolutions, award‑winning events and clear visitor targets—are meant to boost the city’s contribution to Vietnam’s double‑digit economic growth. If successful, the tourism push could create more jobs and higher incomes across the country.
