Vietnam has become a signatory of the Artemis Accords, a global pact for peaceful space exploration. The move is significant because it links the country’s space ambitions with international standards that can drive scientific progress and sustainable growth.
On 28 October 2026, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan received the Artemis Accords from U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Wicks during Vietnam International Digital Week in Quang Ninh. The ceremony highlighted Vietnam’s intention to cooperate with other member nations under the Accords.
The Artemis Accords, launched by the United States and seven partners in 2020, establish common rules for activities on the Moon, Mars and other celestial bodies. They promote transparency, data sharing, system interoperability and responsible, sustainable use of space resources.
Vietnam sees space science and technology as a strategic sector that can lift national science‑technology capacity and support sustainable growth, according to Minister Quan. The country therefore prioritises self‑reliance in space technology and data, applying them to resource management, environmental protection, climate‑change response and disaster prevention, while building a space‑economy ecosystem.
VIDW 2026 ran from 28‑30 October, attracted about 500 domestic and foreign delegates and focused on “Smart Connectivity: AI Governance, Shaping AI Transformation”. The event underscored Vietnam’s broader push for digital and scientific cooperation.
By joining the Artemis Accords, Vietnam gains a framework that can strengthen its space research, open new economic opportunities and help meet sustainable‑development goals. The partnership shows how international agreements can boost a nation’s scientific capacity and green growth.
