What California Fitness & Yoga’s fast growth taught us
Bài học từ sự bành trướng nóng vội của California Fitness & Yoga

California Fitness & Yoga grew quickly and had about 35 clubs in 2025. Today the chain has closed all its gyms, showing a clear risk of fast expansion.
The company owed more than VND4.35 billion (US$165,587) in taxes as of September 2026. It also owed more than VND9.02 billion ($343,357) in overdue social insurance contributions in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of September 2026.
All clubs across Vietnam have been suspended, and no club was open in Hanoi by October 26. The chain had operated around 35 clubs in 2025, but most of them have since been suspended.
Chairman Dane Fort said the company “pursued growth at all costs, expanding beyond the capacity of its people and operating systems.” He posted an apology video, asked for another 30 days to restructure and promised a solution for long‑term membership packages by November 19.
This case shows that expanding without enough financial and operational planning can create large tax and insurance debts. It can also force a business to shut down completely.
