Vietnam’s fuel prices increased noticeably this week. Understanding the reasons can help commuters and travelers plan their budgets.
The popular E10 RON95 fuel rose 2.06% to VND25,730 (US$1.00) per litre. At the same time, E5 RON92 went up 2.60% to VND26,020 and diesel increased 2.34% to VND30,240.
According to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the global oil market was affected by Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil and gas facilities, a decline in U.S. crude inventories, and increased diesel production at Russian refineries. In the same period, RON92 gasoline climbed 4.68% to $138.60 a barrel and diesel rose 2.71% to $172.60 a barrel.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang has tasked government bodies with reviewing the legal basis and feasibility of reducing the special consumption tax on gasoline to zero from Nov. 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. The current tax rates are 10% for regular gasoline, 8% for E5 and 7% for E10, and the tax was previously set to 0% from late March to the end of June 2026.
The recent price rise is mainly linked to international oil market disruptions and a possible change in Vietnam’s gasoline tax policy. As a result, travelers and drivers should expect higher fuel costs in the near future.
