A barn owl (Tyto alba) was found in Ho Chi Minh City with its wing feathers clipped and injuries that stopped it from flying. The owl is listed as an endangered species in Vietnam.
Forest rangers from the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department and a veterinary clinic took the owl to a safe place. They kept it in isolation, gave medical treatment and hand‑fed it for several days.
Despite the help, the owl died because it was in poor physical condition, was stressed and would not eat. The rescuers say that clipping wings and mistreating owls can cause death.
They ask people not to think barn owls bring bad luck, but to help them correctly if they are hurt. Proper rescue care can save wild birds, while mistreatment can be fatal.
