The famous prawn noodle stall at Chop Joo Hiong Eating House in Serangoon opened its last day on Oct. 31. It is worth reading because the stall was loved for 32 years and its closure shows how work can affect health.
The owners are 64‑year‑old Wu Fushun and 61‑year‑old Lin Rongduan. They told Shin Min Daily News that they are shutting the business to prioritize their well‑being.
For 32 years they worked more than 10 hours a day, six days a week, and the demanding work gradually affected Wu’s health. Wu said business rose by about 50 % in the stall’s last week as regulars learned of the closure. Customers gave chocolates and handwritten cards, and the owners felt deeply moved.
The stall’s end shows that even a popular business may close when the owners’ health is at risk. It reminds us that taking care of ourselves can be more important than keeping a shop open.
