Record October Heat in Vietnam: What It Means for Daily Life

Nắng nóng kỷ lục tháng 10: Tác động đến đời sống

The National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasting says October 2026 was the hottest October ever recorded in Vietnam. The extreme heat is important because it can affect everything from drinking water to the crops that feed the country.

In the north, temperatures were 2‑3 °C above the usual October level. Sixty‑one of the 215 meteorological stations reported temperatures that matched or exceeded historical highs, and the monthly average at 98 stations – 87 of them in the north – reached or surpassed previous records.

November is expected to stay warm, with temperatures across Vietnam forecast 1‑2 °C above the long‑term average, extending the heat wave into the next month. Such warmth could keep pressure on water resources and crops already stressed by October’s heat.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung issued Directive 39, ordering ministries and local authorities to review water supply, adjust planting schedules and prepare for forest‑fire and flood response. The directive also asked officials to prioritize water for households, health facilities and other essential users while speeding up irrigation and flood‑control projects.

The key takeaway is that the record‑breaking heat will likely strain water supplies, challenge agricultural planning and increase the need for fire‑ and flood‑preparedness. Understanding these impacts can help people and communities get ready for the coming weeks.
